Youth Awards
NEW THIS YEAR!!!: The Elm Fork District will be giving awards to youth leaders in the categories below. Nominations are accepted online in the months before District Dinner. Links to the nomination forms will be published as a separate post once nominations are open.
UNIT LEVEL AWARD
Elm Fork District Junior Spirit of Scouting Award
- 1 award per unit up to 50 youth
- 2 award per unit 51-79 youth
- 3 award per unit 80+ youth
- Unit decides on recipient – submits nomination to district by deadline
- Should be a registered youth who has served at least 1 year and is enthusiastic about Scouting
DISTRICT LEVEL AWARDS
Junior Polaris Award
- Registered Youth Scout who demonstrates the highest levels of leadership and service.
- Has completed the appropriate training for their service.
- Have given substantially of their time and talent well beyond what is customary for a Scouts BSA leader at the troop level.
- Youth Scout involved in Scouts BSA at the District level such as staffing Cub Camp, Cuboree, Trail to Troop, Camporee, Merit Badge College, District Dinner, training events, or sitting on a District-level Committee (such as the Order of the Arrow Chapter) for 1 or more years.
Junior ALPS Award
- Registered Youth Scout who demonstrates the highest levels of leadership and service.
- Has completed the appropriate training for their service.
- Have given substantially of their time and talent well beyond what is customary for a Venturing leader at the crew level.
- Youth Scout involved in Venturing at the District level such as staffing Cub Camp, Cuboree, Trail to Troop, Camporee, Merit Badge College, District Dinner, training events, or sitting on a District-level Committee (such as the Order of the Arrow Chapter) for 1 or more years.
Junior Servant Leadership Award
- Registered Youth Scout who exemplifies the ideals of Baden-Powell’s “trained leader”.
- Has completed either National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) or Wood Badge training, based on age.
- Exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader.
- A scout who takes training beyond their positions requirements.
- May be given for service at unit, district, or council level for 2 or more years.
Adult Awards

- Registered Adult Scouter who demonstrates the highest levels of leadership and service.
- Has completed the appropriate training for their service.
- Have given substantially of their time and talent well beyond what is customary for a Cub Scout leader at the pack level.
- Adult Scouter involved in Cub Scouting at the District level such as staffing Cub Camp, Cuboree, Trail to Troop, District Dinner, training events, or sitting on a District-level Committee for 1 or more years.
Polaris Award
- Registered Adult Scouter who demonstrates the highest levels of leadership and service.
- Has completed the appropriate training for their service.
- Have given substantially of their time and talent well beyond what is customary for a Scouts BSA leader at the troop level.
- Adult Scouter involved in Scouts BSA at the District level such as staffing Cub Camp, Cuboree, Trail to Troop, Camporee, Merit Badge College, District Dinner, training events, or sitting on a District-level Committee for 1 or more years.
ALPS Award
- Registered Adult Scouter who demonstrates the highest levels of leadership and service.
- Has completed the appropriate training for their service.
- Have given substantially of their time and talent well beyond what is customary for a Venturing leader at the crew level.
- Adult Scouter involved in Venturing at the District level such as staffing Cub Camp, Cuboree, Trail to Troop, Camporee, Merit Badge College, District Dinner, training events, or sitting on a District-level Committee for 1 or more years.
Servant Leadership Award
- Registered Adult Scouter who exemplifies the ideals of Baden-Powell’s “trained leader”.
- Has completed Wood Badge training.
- Exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader.
- A scouter who takes training beyond their positions requirements.
- May be given for service at unit, district, or council level for 2 or more years.
CHAIRMAN’S CHOICE
Nickie Rorth Lac Memorial “Scouter Spirit” Award
- May be given for service in training at unit or district level
- Demonstrates a passion for life and scouting
- Willing to volunteer, train and help others (youth and adults)
- Has shown a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected for a given role.
- Should be a registered adult member, serving at least two years.
COUNCIL LEVEL AWARD
District Award of Merit
REQUIREMENTS
- The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 25 traditional units or fraction thereof. The district need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year.
- A nominee must be a registered Scouter.
- A nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, outside Scouting, or both. Note: The nature and value of “noteworthy service to youth” may consist of a single plan or decisions that contributed vitally to the lives of large numbers of youth or it may have been given to a small group over an extended period of time.
- Consideration must be given to the nominee’s Scouting position and the corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectations of that Scouting position.
- The nominee’s attitude toward and cooperation with the district and/or council is to be taken into consideration.
- Nominations cannot be considered for posthumous awards.
