Unit Kernel Job Description

The annual popcorn sale contributes more than $2,300,000 to unit treasuries and Circle Ten Council. Units use these funds to pay for all sorts of items needed to facilitate the Scouting program throughout the year. Such as registration fees, Uniforms, Handbooks, Camping Supplies, day-camps and much more. Our council uses these funds to help maintain camps, support outreach efforts to underprivileged youth, and keep activity/camp prices low for everyone.

The Unit Popcorn Kernel is the top volunteer at the Unit (Pack or Troop) level providing leadership to the sale throughout the entirety of the effort. Working in cooperation with the Council and District level Kernels, aid in the training, administration& volunteer recruitment efforts needed to facilitate the sale.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Serve as the Unit's lead Volunteer Representative supporting the 2026 fall Popcorn campaign.
• Subscribe to the Circle Ten Council's Popcorn Channel & Join the CTC Popcorn Facebook group to stay connected with all information about the Sale.

Meetings:

• Attend the District's 2026 Popcorn Kernel Orientation (August).
• Complete the short Online Trails End video based trainings for Scouts & Leaders.
• Working with parents in your Unit's committee, complete the following tasks;
  • Review the 2026 Popcorn Sale Timeline
  • Review the 2026 Commission Structure
  • Set Unit Sales Goal based on Ideal Year of Scouting program planning.
  • Plan the Date/Time/Location of your unit's Popcorn Kickoff.
  • Discuss and Schedule each phase of the Unit's Sales Strategy (Online, Storefront, Show & Sell).
  • Recruit a team of parents and leaders to assist in the implementation of the Unit's Popcorn Sale.

Leadership:

• When the sale begins, work with your Scouts & Parents to monitor inventory levels and product needs for weekly replenishments, if needed.
• Place unit product orders Online during replenishment window each week, as needed.
• Promote all three phases of the popcorn sale to Scout and Parents at weekly meetings: (Online, Storefronts, and Show & Sell) and encourage weekly participation. Offer assistance when needed.
• Settle outstanding balance with the Council by Friday, November 20th, 2026.
• Thank Parents and Volunteers regularly as their efforts ensure resources are available to support an AMAZING Scouting program!
