Scoutmaster Minute: A New Year, the Same Promise

As the New Year begins, we’re often encouraged to make resolutions. But Scouts already have something better than resolutions. We have a promise.

Each time we say the Scout Oath, we promise to do our best. Not to be perfect. Just to keep trying. A new year gives us 365 fresh chances to live up to that promise a little better than we did yesterday.

The Scout Law reminds us what that looks like in everyday life. Being trustworthy when it’s easier not to be. Being helpful without being asked. Being brave when something is hard or unfamiliar. These aren’t New Year goals that fade by February. They’re guideposts for every day of the trail.

As this year unfolds, don’t ask, ā€œWhat do I want to achieve?ā€ Ask instead, ā€œHow can I live the Scout Oath and Law more fully?ā€ If you do that, this year won’t just be new. It will be meaningful.

šŸ… It Is Time to Recognize Adult Scouters šŸ…

It is this time of year when we recognize our fellow Scouters for the exemplary volunteer work they do at the unit, district, and council levels. We remain thankful for their tireless service.

We have several awards to recognize these individuals, beginning at the unit level with the Your Extraordinary Service (Y.E.S.) Award. At the district level, we have two awards: District Award of Merit and the Robert E. Little Award

ā° Extended Deadline: Last Call for Unit & District Awards

Very few nominations have been received for the (Y.E.S.) Award. Please nominate those outstanding leaders and volunteers in your unit, every unit has someone deserving for this award.

All unit and district award applications must be submitted by January 14. Late submissions cannot be accepted.

Self-nominations will not be accepted.

More information, including submission details, is available here

For questions, please contact the Awards and Recognition Chair, Muhammad Ikram at mzi@gatech.edu
