Scout Activity During the Summer Months

Offering special opportunities for growth, adventure, and community involvement, summer is a critical season for Boy Scouts. In these months, participating in scout activities helps develop critical abilities, encourages teamwork, and deepens friendships. Outdoor activities such as camping, trekking, and canoeing not only improve physical health but also help to develop a sense of responsibility for the natural world.

Furthermore, summer events often include community service projects, thereby enabling scouts to give back and influence. These events are priceless since they build lifelong memories and develop leadership and resilience. Participating in scout activities will help you to embrace the summer months and maximize this wonderful season!

    New Resource for Stronger Troops!

Scouts BSA has just introduced a Revised Troop Self-Assessment Program — designed to help troops reflect, improve, and grow stronger together.

You Can Help Connect Us With New Unit Prospects

Northern Trail is setting appointments with Calvary Pentecostal and St. James Episcopal churches. Are you a member at either site? We'd love to know as it's always helpful to have Scouters who are also members of our partners. Contact DE Katherine McCrary at Katherine.McClary@scouting.org. Have ideas for other possible unit prospective partners? We're all ears!

    WFA Wilderness First Aid

There are no more Wilderness First Aid classes on the calendar for this year.

    Youth Protection Training (YPT)

Avoid the rush, check your card and get it done. The current YPT training is valid for two years then you will have to take the new training mentioned below. If you are out of date, it is full stop. Go to my.scouting.org for this and other training opportunities. Don't forget Hazardous Weather Training and Range Activities Safety Training.

    Important Update: YPT Replacement

Please note that YPT is being replaced with a new course called "S.A.F.E.guarding Youth." The new course contains a lot of updated information and reinforces a culture of active supervision, situational awareness, and safety.

Your YPT is still valid for 2 years from the date completed, but once your current YPT expires, you will need to move to this new training.

S.A.F.E.guarding Youth training is 90 minutes long the first time you complete it. After completing the training one time, you will only need to complete annual 15-minute refreshers moving forward.
