Uniform Pocket Knots
Have you noticed the small colorful knot patches on the pocket of an adult scouter’s uniform? These knots have different meanings. For example, the training knot recognizes leaders who have completed training, tenure and activity. The scouter’s Key knot recognizes unit leaders who have met position and training requirements for specific scouting programs.
Some knots may be earned and applied for and others must be awarded.
Beyond training and tenure, knots also represent prestigious awards. The District Award of Merit honors Scouters for their exceptional service at the district level. The Silver Beaver Award, a council-level honor bestowed upon adult leaders for their distinguished service to youth. These awards highlight individuals who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to Scouting.
Wearing knots on the uniform represents the commitment to the scouting program and encourages other adults to take the time to become better leaders through training and active participation in the program.
