Mark the Way: The Welcome Matters

Joining Is Just the Beginning

You did it—a new Scout joined your unit!

But recruiting a family is only the first step. What happens next can determine whether that family stays engaged and makes Scouting part of their lives for years to come.

A strong welcome helps new parents understand what to expect, where to go for answers, and how they can become part of the unit. If you haven't already, schedule a new parent orientation and personally welcome each new family.

And make sure every new parent receives the New Parent Guide. It's designed to help families navigate those first weeks in Scouting—from meetings and uniforms to activities, resources, and getting involved.

Mark the Way Action Item

✔ Welcome every new family personally
✔ Hold a new parent orientation
✔ Share the New Parent Guide
✔ Help parents know what happens next

Getting families to join is important. Making them feel like they belong is how we keep them.
