Something's Roaring in the Jungle There is an exciting new Scouting program called “Lion” for kindergarten-aged boys. But it’s not a program that changes any of the current ranks and organization of other Scouting programs. It’s unique as it reaches out to a slightly younger group of boys. Research shows that childhood development accelerates around ages 4 and 5, about the time youth begin formal education. That’s where Scouting comes in. Like many of the BSA’s programs which supplement the learning and growth boys experience at home and in an educational environment at that age, the Boy...

For many months the BSA has been listening to families all across the country, and locally we conducted  town hall meetings to provide feedback about involving girls in the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs.  Today (October 11, 2017), the BSA national board of directors unanimously approved welcoming girls into Cub Scouting in the 2018 program year, as well as delivering a Scouting program in 2019 for older girls that will enable them to advance and earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout. This decision is the result of years of requests from families: The BSA thoughtfully evaluated how to bring...

This is a giant leap forward in allowing prospective members and leaders to register in a way that's convenient for them, and it creates a more efficient and user-friendly registration experience for units, districts, and councils. In an effort to assist our units with this new registration tool, we have sent an email each Thursday focusing on an individual aspect of the tool. These bite-sized...
