Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Circle Ten Tornado Relief Fund and/or shared it with your social networks. It is in times like these that "A Scout is Helpful" really takes form. A number of units have either volunteered their assistance or asked for ways to help beyond giving financially. The cities of Rowlett and Garland have come together to coordinate their efforts. We encourage our units to visit https://garlandtx.recovers.org to find out where your aid can be most useful.

UPDATE: The Southern Region of the Boy Scouts of America generously matched all funds raised for tornado relief by our council. With a matching contribution of $3,000.00, and $3,000.00 raised by Circle Ten staff and volunteers, the council’s tornado relief fund raised a total of $6,000.00 to assist Scouting families that were affected by the December 26 tornado outbreak in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. “We would like to thank the Southern Region and the Circle Ten family for getting behind this effort. 11-year-old Charlie Borowczak doesn’t want presents for his Birthday. Instead, he asks for donations to The Salvation Army Angel Tree program. This year he has already raised enough money for eight Angels and by Christmas, he expects to make Christmas possible for 23 kids in need. The Angel Tree program allows people to “adopt” a child in need for the holidays and buy their Christmas presents. At age six, Charlie adopted his first two Angels and was so inspired by the experience that he asked his cousin to do the same the following year – together they adopted six angels. Now, every holiday...

Plano police are searching for the man who shot and injured a driver outside a Cinemark movie theater. Police said a man and woman were sitting in a car in the Cinemark parking lot along the Dallas North Tollway about 7:40 p.m. Monday when a man approached the vehicle. One of the shots hit the driver and paramedics were called to a nearby area where the driver stopped. He was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is in its early phases as police are working on a suspect description. Somehow, the injured man was able to drive about a...

On Saturday afternoon, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was grabbing a bite with son Gunnar at the downtown El Fenix when they espied a woman turning red and gasping for air. The woman told WFAA-Channel 8 she was a few bites into her fajitas, but recalls little about the event: “When I turned around I started gasping for air. I remember standing up, and that’s about all I remember.” Next thing Helen Mayer knew, Mike Rawlings was standing behind her, performing the...
