Camp James Ray is located on Lake Texoma near Pottsboro, Texas. This 540 acre camp offers camping in 11 year-round campsites, hiking, canoeing, rifle, shotgun and archery ranges, swimming, and a dedicated orienteering course.
Summer Camp programs include a Webelos Resident Camp and a Cub Scout Resident Cam in June and July. Camp James Ray is home to the Sanford Aquatics Center, complete with a new state-of-the-art 128,000 gallon swimming pool, with 2 slides, beath front entry, 2 covered pavilions, and a new bathouse.
Camp James Ray is also home for Circle Ten Council's National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) program, with courses held during Spring Break, July, and in December.
Weekend camping at Camp James Ray offers activities such as hiking, canoeing on our wonderful waterfront, shooting sports, trying your hand at the bouldering wall, a quick game at the Gaga pit, human foosball, or swimming at the Sanford Aqautics Center.
If you enjoy hiking, exploring, or wilderness survival camping, venture across Mill Creek Road to our 300 acres of outpost porperty. This property was once home to the Perrin Air Force Base annex. It is a wooded, underdeveloped area of camp. The outpost area is home to 2 Philmont-style campsites, complete with bear cables, fire pits, and sumps, as well as 2 lakeside camping spots with sandy beaches.
Lake Texoma is famous for sand bass and striped bass. Come explore the many miles of shoreline on Camp James Ray which offers a chance to see much of the wildlife in our area.
Directions from Dallas: Take Highway 75 north to Denison, take exit 69 (Highway 120), and turn left at the light. Continue west on Highway 120 to Pottsboro, passing through town (staying in the left lane). At the intersection of Highway 120 and Highway 289, continue on Highway 120 for 5.1 miles. Turn left on Locust Rd (see camp direction sign), travel 1.8 miles to a 4-way stop (Paradise Store on the corner). Turn right on Mill Creek Rd, travel 2.1 miles. Camp James Ray entrance will be on the right (large stone entrance-way).
Directions from Frisco: Travel north on Highway 289. In Pottsboro, turn left onto Highway 120 and travel for 5.1 miles. Turn left on Locust Rd (see camp direction sign), travel 1.8 miles to a 4-way stop (Paradise Store on the corner). Turn right on Mill Creek Rd, travel 2.1 miles. Camp James Ray entrance will be on the right (large stone entrance-way).
